President Akufo-Addo has noted that he has not closed down radio stations in the county and has therefore asked the owners of closed down radio stations to follow the procedure so that they are back on air.

President Akufo-Addo was reacting to an appeal made by the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo during an interaction with political parties in the country on the way forward in fighting COVID-19.

Many radio stations including; Radio Gold, Muntie FM and Radio XYZ were closed down by the National Communication Authority in 2019.

According to the President Akufo-Addo he has closed down any radio, the radio stations he noted where closed down based on law and therefore urged the owners to follow the procedure with the National Communication Authority to get their frequencies re-operationalised.

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo commended the President giving amnesty to 808 prisoners and therefore urged the president to give amnesty to radio stations that are closed.

He noted that when these radio stations are back on air they would also use their airwaves to educate their listeners on COVID-19.
