Fire has destroyed over 200 structures at Dagombaline in Kumasi the Ashanti Regional Capital.
The fire according to sources started around 5p.m. Friday. Many have been rendered homes as most of the structures serve as homes for hundreds of people.
Properties running into thousands of Ghana cedis were destroyed in the fire which lasted close to two hours.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) had a tough time accessing the place with their fire tender. The Ghana National Fire Service had difficulties in accessing the place to bring the fire under control.
The Ashanti Regional Operations Officer of the GNFS, Divisional Officer Grade II Francis Darko-Kono speaking to
“We had a distress call that there is a fire outbreak at Dagombaline so we quickly dispatched the first tender from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology it got here on time, three additional tenders were dispatched. We were able to control the fire though considerable structures have been destroyed, access to the place was very poor.”
Many head potters popularly called Kayayei have been rendered homeless following the incident.
